(We have set up Marty’s phone for him to be able to post to the blog directly from it. This means that when he is out on trips and he has internet access, he will be able keep us updated! We are praying for some sort of mobile device, like a iPad or laptop for him to use on his trips. It is a little difficult to type full emails on a small phone keyboard!)

Ethiopia Touched By Jesus

I just returned from 10 days in the country. Many poor, enslaved, HIV and lost people set free by the power of the Gospel! Rice, flour, sugar and oil given. The church of Jesus continues to grow in the midst of persecution, violence, poverty and corrupt government! Pray!

Dear partners in reaching the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ! When I think of this it is overwhelming. And when I am there among the people it is even more of a challenge. You see all of the poverty, beggars, filth, cows, cars, scooters, motorcycles, buses, trucks, carts, bicycles and people everywhere. And you wonder “Where do I begin? Father, help me know what to do to love these people in the name of Jesus.” Jesus had compassion on the people, touched them, prayed for them, ministered to them and I want to do the same. And he is faithful to help us. We ministered to over 100 children where they had blocked off a street. After we shared and prayed with them we gave them something to eat. They were so blessed. One day we had over 300 children pressed into a room, sang and preached and then gave everyone a bible in their language called Telagu. Isaiah 55 says that God’s word will go out and accomplish what He purposes and it will not return to Him void. Praise God for the power of the word and it is being spread all over India even in the face of persecution. These children will answer the call. On this mission I went back to Orissa where I was four years ago. The Communists had killed a Hindu Swami and blamed it on the Christians and the Hindus started killing Christians. By August of 2008 they had killed 42 Christians, burned buildings and personal property. Over 700 people left their village and found safety in the YMCA of the main city of Babhaneswar. We were there at that time and ministered to about 300 of those people with prayer and encouragement. I met Ajmad Missal, a young pastor who was reaching out to the poor in the slums. He had been doing this for 8 years, walking for miles through the city to help the people. We have talked to each other for the past four years and he appealed for me to come visit. I did! Wow what an eye opener. I was able to give blankets to old women and widows to help them keep warm. Ajmad and his wife have adopted 12 little boys who have no parents or family. They feed, house and cloth them and help them go to school. Dear Ones, how I wished for more money to help Ajmad and his little wife in their ministry. Pray for them; they are so faithful. They want me to come back—and I want to. We stood at the back of his house and prayed over a piece of property that could be used to build a multi-use facility that could touch and minister to thousands of people. PRAY AND BELIEVE WITH US, OKAY. I KNOW THAT GOD HAS ALL OF THE RESOURCES; MAY HE RELEASE THEM TO US SO WE CAN BLESS THE PEOPLE. PLEASE HELP US GET THERE TO REACH THE LOST! 2 COR. 5:9-21 SOME OF YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO GO WITH US THIS YEAR. DO IT!!

Update From Michael January 2012

Dad asked me to share some thoughts with you before he left New Year’s Eve for a conference in Atlanta. I meant to start this then… What happens with the time? Man… it’s already 2012. I am 34 now and feel like my life has gone by so quickly. TIME… TIME… TIME! Do you ever stop and wonder – Where did the TIME go after all? You know I do. And I do it probably more often than I should. It does captivate me at times. I think about all the people I have been blessed to have in my life. My family… The Hooper, Johnson, Wheat, Payne, Davis, Crow, Norwood, Anderson, etc. etc. etc. families… I could go on and on and on. I think about my wife Tara and our kids and how blessed I am to have them… How fortunate my TIME is with them… every day. I think God uses my loved ones to help remind me of how precious TIME is. How precious do I treat TIME though? How do you value your TIME? I enter 2012 asking these very important questions. I want to “Redeem the Time” and spend it as wisely and as preciously as I possibly can. How about you?

Tim Tebow (I will assume that you all know who that is) said the other day that he knows God has given him football to use as a platform to not just lift up the name of Jesus but also be a blessing to others. After he quarterbacked the Denver Broncos to a thrilling overtime win several weeks ago over the highly favored Pittsburgh Steelers, Tebow mentioned Bailey Knaub, a junior at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, CO. Tebow and his family hosted her for the game as the most recent recipient of the “Wish 15”award. Bailey has Wegener’s Granulomatosis, a condition that has forced her to undergo 73 surgeries in 10 years, the most serious of which was the removal of her left lung in 2010. Tim was very excited about the win and had a career performance. He also made it very clear that the win paled in significance when compared to the health struggles Bailey has faced. Tim spends TIME with young people just like her on a weekly basis because he is filled with a passion and a purpose… a drive to live his life in service and sacrifice for others. Even though he has been given an amazing gift and an extraordinary spotlight as a professional athlete, I don’t think God will are wants to use you any less. It’s up to you, just like it’s up to Tim Tebow, to make the most of every opportunity… to reach out and touch others with love and mercy and compassion. It reminds me of the song that Dad has sung over the years… “You’re the Only Jesus Some Will Ever See”! Do you believe that? Stop waiting for the right moment! Stop waiting for the perfect opportunity. Don’t make excuses! You know someone who needs a loving touch and the experience of God’s power in their life. You may cross paths with that person today. Will you be ready for that moment in TIME? DO you need to slow down and sit with your kids and play for a while? Do your grandkids need you to be more involved in their lives? Does your wife need more uninterrupted TIME with you. My prayer for all of us is that we would see clearly what distracts us and what steals our precious TIME away from us. After all… Our TIME is really the Lords TIME! DON’T DELAY! Make the MOST of IT! We thank you all for your prayers and continual support as God uses us to reach the world with the wonderful message of the Gospel. We love and appreciate you all very much. Many blessings to you all in 2012!

Praying for $3000 for Books

Dr. Samuel Shadeed, who teaches at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, has completed the translation into Arabic of “Making a Disciple” by Dr. Keith Phillips. It will help new Christians in the Middle East to mature. We are praying for $300o to pay for his work. Also we need a total of $25,000 to cover our ministry costs for the remainder of the 2011 and onto 2012. My little church has committed to match anything that you give towards these ministry needs. Please prayerfully consider what you can do, listen to the Lord, and help us reach there world for Jesus!
